Catalogue Number: 03413 RRP: AU$250.00 Weight in grams:3500 See Ordering Information. The Great Barrier Reef of Australia W. Saville-Kent Facsimile Edition South Yarra: John Curry, O'Neil, 1972 Cloth Very Good/Very Good Folio The text and plates of the original 1893 edition are reproduced here without abridgement or alteration. "An account with copious coloured and photographic illustrations (the latter here produced for the first time) of the corals and coral reefs, pearl and pearl-shell, beche-de-mer, other fishing industries, and the marine fauna of the Australian Great Barrier Reef region." 387 pages with 21 b&w illustrations (consisting of 1 map, 8 photos, figures), plus 1 folded chart of the Great Barrier Reef, 48 photo-mezzotype plates, and 16 chromo plates. An extraordinary work. Especially when it is used to compare the reef to it's current condition and to it's projected dismal future. Some minor soiling on the glossy jacket, the edges of the text block are lightly tanned, the interior is fresh and clean, the plates still bright. A collectible copy of an important book. This copy is from the library of Gerd Van Dincklage-Schulenberg, a well known Australian diving pioneer of German extraction, who was famous as the first person to complete the now annual Cottesloe to Rottnest Island swim in 1956.
